Thank you for admiring our many gardens! Not only are these gardens attractive to look at but they all serve a purpose of benefiting Mother Nature and the environment for us and future generations.
The Friends have dedicated many hours to create EBG (environmentally beneficial gardens). The beautiful annuals and perennial flowers provide nectar for many pollinators, bees, butterflies, birds and insects. However, our gardens provide more than nectar. The milkweed plant is the host for the endangered Monarch Butterfly. It is the ONLY plant monarch caterpillars can eat to become Monarch Butterflies. Some of the flowers provide seed for the birds after the flowers have faded. The Purple Coneflower provides much needed seed for fall and winter birds. Insects thrive on the pollen of the rose; rose hips are a good food source for birds in autumn and winter. Even the spider mites, aphids, worms and grubs found in the gardens are beneficial to the wildlife.
