Park staff and the Friends have been working to improve accessibility to our park. The Park added an accessible sidewalk from the Area 4 parking lot to Shelter 5. There are also newer accessible bathrooms in Loops A and B in the campground along with a newer beach house in Area 3. Many areas have easy access to sidewalks including the Camping Contact Station.
The Friends have received funding through Parks and Trails NY to add the stone dust paths at the CCC/POW camp and also to add Mobi mats which have vastly improved accessibility for all patrons in Area 3. We also purchased and assembled 21 accessible picnic tables which are scattered throughout the park including in or near each shelter.
An easy to navigate path in the Yanty Marsh takes you to an accessible platform and a boardwalk into the marsh. The Friends added an accessible table to the platform in 2024.
Future plans include converting a bathroom and sidewalks in Area 4 and also to renovate the hexagon building into a nature/visitor center. Making these areas accessible to all will be a top priority.
